Houston Oilers Throwback Authentic Speedflex 1981 - 1998
The overall look stayed largely the same as the Luv Ya Blue era that preceded it, but one change set this version of the Oilers helmet apart: in 1983 the franchise switched from a gray facemask to red, completing the full integration of the team's color scheme into every element of the helmet. This is the design worn through the Warren Moon era, one of the most prolific passing stretches in franchise history, as the Oilers built some of the highest-scoring offenses in the NFL through the late 1980s and early 1990s before the franchise's painful collapse and eventual relocation to Tennessee in 1997. It's also the helmet worn during the most heartbreaking moment in Houston sports history, the 1993 Wild Card loss to the Buffalo Bills after leading 35-3 at halftime.
