The Houston Oilers were the original champions of professional football's upstart American Football League, winning back-to-back AFL titles in 1960 and 1961 under quarterback George Blanda with this exact look on their heads. The baby blue shell with a white oil derrick logo and a single white center stripe was unlike anything else in professional football at the time, a light, airy color scheme that stood in sharp contrast to the darker palettes worn by most teams of that era. The Oilers wore this original design through their first championship run before subtle uniform changes began in 1963, making this the helmet most directly associated with the franchise's only two championship seasons.
