The matte black shell gives the white West Virginia state outline graphic the room it needs to read as the complete, geographically specific design statement it was built to be, the irregular borders of the state filling a significant portion of the panel with the flying WV mark rendered in black within the white outline, the whole composition reading as a single unified image rather than a logo on a background. The blacked-out face mask and hardware keep every surface in the same dark register, and the matte finish eliminates any glare that would compete with the stark white graphic for attention.
