Details
Officially licensed Riddell collectible.
In 1988 the San Diego Chargers overhauled their look with a deeper navy shell, switching the helmet's lightning bolt from gold to white with a navy interior and gold outline, and replacing the gold facemask with navy to match. The result was a sharper, more menacing look than anything the franchise had worn before, and the timing coincided with one of the most exciting eras in Chargers history. This is the helmet worn through the Air Coryell-adjacent years, through Junior Seau's arrival in 1990, through Stan Humphries and Natrone Means leading San Diego to Super Bowl XXIX following the 1994 season, and through LaDainian Tomlinson's early dominance before the franchise eventually updated the helmet design in 2007.
