Iowa City has one of the great helmet identities in college football, and the black shell is where the Tigerhawk reaches its most dramatic expression. The gloss black surface gives the gold and black Tigerhawk logo a contrast that the standard gold shell cannot deliver in the same way, the mark burning against the dark surface with an intensity that makes it look like it was designed specifically for this colorway. A gold crown stripe runs the length of the shell, pulling the primary program color forward without competing with the oversized Tigerhawk that dominates the panel. The blacked-out face mask completes a presentation that is as unified and aggressive as anything the Hawkeyes wear on the road.
