When the NFL introduced Color Rush uniforms in 2016, Denver faced a unique challenge tied to the league's one-helmet rule, which prevented teams from pairing a separate throwback shell with their Color Rush look. The Broncos found a clever workaround, keeping their standard navy shell but temporarily swapping in the throwback "D" logo with the snorting white horse, a nod to the franchise's 1968 through 1996 era, paired with the modern navy shell and black facemask. The look debuted in a Thursday night matchup against the Chargers and made return appearances against the Colts and Steelers in the years that followed, blending old and new into a one-of-a-kind alternate that never quite matched any single era on its own.
