If the blue shell is Boise State at its most iconic, the matte black alternate is the program at its most dangerous. Everything about this helmet communicates threat: a flat black shell that absorbs light rather than reflects it, the Bronco head rendered in white and silver with that signature orange nostril burning through the darkness, and a blacked-out face mask that pulls the whole presentation into one unified, aggressive package. The chrome-effect detailing on the logo gives it just enough dimension to keep it from reading as flat, and the contrast between the matte shell and the bright white graphic is exactly the kind of visual tension that makes alternate helmets worth collecting in the first place.
